Company to take on Stafford, Texas operations
Release Date: June 13, 2005

TROY, Mich. -- Delphi Medical Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of Delphi Corp. (NYSE: DPH), is adding a life science instrumentation manufacturing facility to its operations portfolio.

This strategic move provides Delphi Medical Systems more business with Applied Biosystems Group of Applera Corporation (NYSE: ABI), a life science research company headquartered in Foster City, California and current Delphi Medical Systems customer, and continues Delphi's strategy of customer diversification within the medical device industry.

"This creative way of outsourcing on the part of Applied Biosystems enables an uninterrupted product supply to its customer base, avoiding a learning curve normally associated with typical outsourcing initiatives where the manufacturing assets are relocated or duplicated," said Christophe Sevrain, managing director, Delphi Medical Systems. "Employees already well-trained and experienced in building these extremely complex instruments will remain and continue building the products, thus lowering risks for all involved. The employees of the Delphi Medical Systems - Texas Operations have broad expertise manufacturing complex, state-of-the-art life science instruments under the highest quality standards."

The Applied Biosystems Group serves the life science industry and research community by developing and marketing instrument-based systems, consumables, software, and services. Customers use these tools to analyze nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), small molecules, and proteins to make scientific discoveries, develop new pharmaceuticals, and conduct standardized testing.

Delphi Medical Systems - Texas Operations has leased a facility in Stafford, Texas, near Houston, previously utilized by Applied Biosystems to manufacture multiple life science instrument platforms. In addition, Delphi Medical Systems - Texas Operations will hire employees from Applied Biosystems.

"In addition to growing our in in-vitro diagnostics revenues, one of our targeted market segments, we hope to show other OEMs our interest in outsourcing their manufacturing operations safely and seamlessly, while leveraging Delphi's strengths in breakthrough technologies and manufacturing operations excellence," Sevrain said. "We are delighted to have earned the trust of Applied Biosystems Group, and are looking forward to an extended collaboration."
